Assignment #8 Landscape nature

The intention of this composition is to lead the eye into the landscape with the curve of the stream and the diagonal line of the pale yellow grasses. The two trees at left and the shadow underneath return the eye to  the "path" and theoretically keeps the eye flowing through the image. The diagonal threads of snow point toward the full moon rising against the deep blue sky barely above the golden mound striated by rhythmic vertical incisions and snow accentuating its form. f 3, 1/160, ISO 100, 4mm/24.

I manipulated this landscape in Photoshop. This scene of devastation is next to I94. Clearing the way for economic development in Bismarck. It's a long sad story. I tried to dramatize the juxtaposed felled trees and the living tree. 3/13/2013 Time: 5:00 p.m.  f3.3, 1/550, ISO 100, 6mm/85.

Here it is.  A once lovely farm already subdivided receives its final blow hacked to death to be no more. I do not doubt the next time I go to Bismarck it will be a figment of my imagination -all gone with new construction underway. 3/13/2013 Time: 5:00 p.m.  f3.3, 1/550, ISO 100, 6mm/85.
Many many giant Cottonwood trees chipped into huge piles. The trunks and major limbs reserved for sale as fire wood. 3/13/2013 Time: 4:36 p.m.  f3.3, 1/500, ISO 100, 7mm/40.

I wasn't able to capture the extent of the massacre in one photograph. This scene was all around me 360. 3/13/2013 Time: 4:57 p.m.  f3.3, 1/1000, ISO 100, 4mm/24.

Time: 7:17 p.m. f 3.7, 1/60, ISO 140, 11mm/60. The glow has passed in just a few minutes. I think this mound has a majestic quality.
